Galatasaray’s General Secretary, Eray Yazgan, has hinted that the Turkish champions could reignite their interest in Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman during the next transfer window, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Istanbul club had approached Atalanta for Lookman last summer but halted negotiations after the Serie A side demanded a steep €60 million fee for the 28-year-old.
Speaking at an award ceremony, Yazgan was asked about the club’s pursuit of Lookman and responded, “We have a great squad right now; it’s quite enough. As I said, we are building on it. We will definitely continue to strengthen it according to our coach’s desires and needs.”
Lookman, the reigning African Footballer of the Year, has faced renewed uncertainty over his future at Atalanta following a breakdown in his relationship with the club.
The Nigerian international had gone on strike in the summer after a failed transfer to Inter Milan and was later reintegrated into the squad. However, he clashed with former coach Ivan Juric during last week’s Champions League win over Marseille — an altercation that saw Juric grab Lookman’s arm before being separated.
Juric has since been dismissed and replaced by Raffaele Palladino, but Lookman’s future in Bergamo remains unclear.
The forward’s current contract with Atalanta runs until June 2027, meaning any move for his signature would likely require a substantial financial commitment.
