The Federal Government has launched a National Digital Farmers Registry to modernize agriculture, improve transparency, and ensure government programs reach real farmers.
The platform, developed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS) in partnership with NIMC, links farmers to their National Identity Numbers (NIN) and collects biometric and farm data, including crop types, livestock, and land size.
A G2P biometric card allows farmers to access government services offline, including farm inputs, financial services, and insurance. The pilot phase in Nasarawa State will register 2 million farmers, with plans to expand to 6 million.
The registry also incorporates geo-referenced data to map farms and prevent “ghost farmers,” ensuring interventions reach genuine beneficiaries. Officials say the system will enhance policy planning, monitoring, and support for Nigerian farmers.
Minister of Agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kyari called it “a transformative step for boosting productivity, transparency, and food security in Nigeria.” Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
