The Edo State Government and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have strengthened joint efforts to curb illegal cannabis cultivation across the state.
The NDLEA recently destroyed farms in Uzebba, Ohosu and Ugbogui forests, wiping out several hectares of cannabis and seizing large quantities of processed drugs. Dozens of suspects were arrested during the operations.
Authorities say illegal cannabis farms pose a threat to food security, as vast farmlands used for the crop could support food and cash production. The government plans to encourage farmers to switch to legitimate agriculture.
Residents have been urged to provide intelligence as the crackdown continues. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
