Crayfish Prices Surge in Lagos, May Hit ₦15,000 by December

Crayfish prices have jumped sharply across Lagos markets, with traders warning that a paint bucket could cost ₦15,000–₦20,000 by December.

Currently selling for about ₦11,000, the spike is linked to rising fuel costs, expensive transportation, poor road networks, and seasonal shortages that have reduced supply.

Wholesale prices have also climbed, with large bags now selling for ₦40,000–₦42,000, squeezing traders’ profits and slowing customer demand. Many consumers say they are cutting back or rationing crayfish as the staple becomes harder to afford.

The surge comes amid broader economic pressure, as Nigeria’s inflation remains high, tightening food budgets for households across the state. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
