Food prices in Lagos have generally declined, offering some relief to consumers. Out of 70 monitored items across major markets like Mushin, Mile 12, Daleko, and Oyingbo, 27 staples recorded price drops. Key reductions include pepper (down 20%), white maize (–18%), garri, vegetable oil, and 12.5 kg cooking gas (–13.3%).
However, essentials such as dry onions, fish, flour, and pasta bucked the trend. Dry onions rose 28.6%, horse mackerel by 18.4%, and Titus fish by 7.7%. Flour and pasta prices also climbed, with some brands up 13–16%.
Analysts cite low harvests, transport costs, and import pressures as reasons for the price increases. While overall food inflation eased to 14.76% in Lagos, the rising cost of these essentials means affordability remains a concern for households. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
