Former President Goodluck Jonathan has called for the immediate release of presidential election results in Guinea-Bissau, describing recent events in the country not as a coup but as a stage-managed plot by President Umaro Embalo to undermine democratic governance.
Addressing the media in Abuja, Jonathan emphasized that the country’s transparent electoral process had been hijacked and urged the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to take decisive action to protect democracy in the West African nation.
Jonathan, who was among a group of African leaders stranded during the incident, was leading a joint monitoring mission of the African Union, ECOWAS, and the West African Elders Forum for the presidential election held on Sunday, 23rd November 2025.
Reports indicate that the presidential jet from Ivory Coast, which carried the former Nigerian leader and his team back, arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Thursday, 27th November 2025.
