As Nigeria prepares for its annual surge in holiday travel, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced a series of measures aimed at reducing flight delays and improving passenger experience across major airports.
FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, has directed all airlines operating in the country to review and adjust their flight schedules ahead of the Christmas and New Year peak period. The directive is intended to minimize disruptions caused by overcrowded schedules, aircraft shortages, and operational bottlenecks that typically worsen during the festive season.
To strengthen coordination, FAAN has moved from quarterly stakeholder meetings to weekly sessions throughout December and January, bringing together airlines, ground handlers, facility managers, and other partners to ensure issues are resolved promptly.
In readiness for the holiday influx, FAAN is also upgrading airport infrastructure, including repairs to faulty cooling systems, improvements in power supply, and enhanced sanitation measures within terminals. The agency says airports must remain “safe, secure, and welcoming spaces” despite the seasonal spike in passenger traffic.
The Christmas travel rush consistently drives up demand for flights, and analysts warn delays could worsen without improved planning and adequate facilities. With limited aircraft and heavy traffic, delays and cancellations have already been on the rise in recent months.
FAAN has urged airlines to provide clear and timely updates on any schedule changes so passengers can better prepare for their trips. Travelers are advised to check flight information frequently as timetable adjustments are likely.
With millions expected to pass through Nigeria’s airports in the coming weeks, FAAN says it is working to ease congestion and reduce the familiar holiday travel frustrations. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
