Ogun State Presents N1.669 Trillion 2026 Budget of Sustainable Legacy

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill, tagged the Budget of Sustainable Legacy, to the State House of Assembly. The proposed budget totals N1.669 trillion, with a focus on infrastructure development, human capital, and economic growth.

The budget allocates N1.044 trillion (63%) to capital expenditure and N624.76 billion (37%) to recurrent expenditure. Key recurrent spending components include personnel costs of N167.92 billion, overhead costs of N291.06 billion, public debt charges of N99.98 billion, and consolidated revenue charges of N65.80 billion.

Revenue projections for 2026 are driven by internally generated revenue of N509.88 billion, other MDAs generating N259.88 billion, federal allocations of N554.81 billion, and capital receipts totaling N518.90 billion.

Sectoral allocations highlight major priorities:

Infrastructure: N526.15 billion (32%) Education: N275.40 billion (17%) Health: N210.59 billion (13%)

Other sectors include housing and community development (N166.96 billion, 10%), social protection (N72.82 billion, 4%), recreation, culture and religion (N42.24 billion, 3%), agriculture and industry (N40.54 billion, 2%), judiciary (N15.70 billion, 1%), legislature (N33.67 billion, 2%), public order and safety (N36 billion, 2%), general public service (N111.81 billion, 6%), economic affairs (N7.4 billion, 0.4%), and statewide projects (N129.67 billion, 8%).

The 2026 budget is strategically focused on revenue-generating projects, job creation, and alignment with the Ogun State Economic Development Plan and the National Development Plan under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Governor Abiodun highlighted the state’s economic achievements, including a rebased GDP of N18.79 trillion, growth in internally generated revenue from N52 billion in 2020 to a projected N250 billion in 2025, construction of over 1,500 km of roads, and the certification and operation of the Gateway International Airport.

The budget also incorporates plans to celebrate Ogun State’s 50th Anniversary in 2026, featuring events such as the Gateway Afrobeat Drum Festival.
