Popular Nigerian music star, Damini Ogulu, widely known as Burna Boy, alongside social commentator Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan), has visited the Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Lagos State.
The visit was confirmed in a statement issued by Osho Onimisi Joseph, Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Lagos State Command. According to the statement, the purpose of the visit was to obtain first-hand information on the legal and administrative procedures governing the release of inmates eligible for discharge through the payment of fines.
The Officer-in-Charge of the facility, Sanni Richard, who received the delegation, explained the processes involved in fine payments, eligibility criteria, and the legal safeguards in place to ensure transparency and strict compliance with court orders.
The statement emphasized that the payment of fines for eligible inmates is strictly guided by court judgments and correctional regulations, stressing that no inmate is released without due process and proper authorization.
The Nigerian Correctional Service further assured the public that inmates across custodial centres are held in safe, secure, and humane conditions, in line with the Nigerian Correctional Service Act and international best practices.
The Service also commended lawful initiatives aimed at promoting access to justice, custodial decongestion, and the humane treatment of inmates, while reaffirming its commitment to the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders into society.
