The Federal Government has trained women and youths in ruminant livestock farming as part of efforts to strengthen the livestock sector, enhance food security, and promote economic empowerment across the country.
The training programme, organised by the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, focused on small ruminants such as sheep and goats. Participants received practical instruction on improved animal husbandry practices, including feeding, housing, breeding, disease prevention, and general farm management.
Officials of the ministry said the initiative was designed to equip women and young people with the necessary skills to become self-reliant and actively participate in the livestock value chain. According to them, ruminant farming offers a low-cost entry point into agriculture and has significant potential for income generation, especially in rural communities.
