NiMet Alerts Public on Dust Haze, Thunderstorms; Asthmatics and Airlines Advised to Take Precautions

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a nationwide warning over worsening dust haze and potential thunderstorms, urging asthmatics, airline operators, and the general public to take precautions.
According to NiMet, dust particles suspended in the air are reducing visibility in many parts of the country, particularly in the northern and central regions. The agency warned that this could worsen respiratory conditions, such as asthma, and advised vulnerable individuals to limit outdoor activities.
While most areas will experience hazy and sunny conditions, isolated thunderstorms and light rains are expected in southern and coastal states, including Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Lagos.
NiMet also advised airline operators to obtain detailed airport-specific weather reports to ensure safe flight operations, and cautioned drivers to exercise care where visibility is reduced.
The agency emphasized that these conditions are likely to persist over the next few days, urging the public to stay updated on weather developments and take necessary safety measures. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
