Nigeria’s National Grid Collapses Again, Second Time in January

Share

Nigeria’s national electricity grid suffered another total collapse on Tuesday, marking the second system failure this month and triggering widespread blackouts across the country.
The Nigeria Independent System Operator (NISO) confirmed the incident, while grid data showed power allocation to distribution companies dropped to zero megawatts, indicating a complete shutdown of electricity transmission nationwide.
This follows an earlier grid collapse on January 23, which also caused nationwide outages and forced emergency restoration efforts. Repeated failures have raised fresh concerns about the stability of Nigeria’s power infrastructure.
Preliminary findings from previous incidents linked the disturbances to tripped high-voltage transmission lines and generator disconnections, which destabilised the system. Authorities say investigations and recovery efforts are ongoing. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
