The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stressed the need for financial prudence in governance, warning that government resources cannot be spent solely on salaries and allowances at the expense of infrastructure development.

Addressing workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Wike questioned the sustainability of channeling public funds entirely into recurrent expenditure, noting that such an approach would stall critical projects such as road construction and the procurement of official vehicles.

He emphasized that government must strike a balance between staff welfare and capital development, adding that resorting to printing money to meet obligations was not an option. The minister urged workers to adopt a patriotic mindset and understand the broader demands of governance and national development.

Wike’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions around public sector spending, revenue constraints, and the need for responsible economic management within government institutions.
