The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Nigerian youths to dream big and work diligently toward achieving their aspirations, as she commissioned the Oluremi Tinubu Dream Centre at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State. The digital library, built by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, in her honour and digitised by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), was unveiled as a hub for inspiration, learning, and innovation.
Speaking at the event, Senator Tinubu described the Dream Centre as a major milestone in her lifelong commitment to inspiring future generations. She shared personal reflections on her journey, noting that she had always dreamed of becoming a teacher and went on to achieve that goal, while continuing to dream and grow. She expressed optimism that the fully digitised, fit-for-purpose centre—comprising a mentorship room, library, digital museum, dream room, innovation hub, studio, and tech garden—would serve as a modern-day hatchery for ideas, imagination, and personal growth.
In his remarks, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, said the establishment of the centre was guided by the inspiring legacy of the First Lady, whom he described as a mother of the nation with over two decades of impactful service to humanity. He noted that a structure originally built as a student pavilion had been upgraded to serve a higher purpose as an innovative space where Nigerian youths can dare to dream and pursue excellence.
The First Lady also used the occasion to redeem her promise to enhance campus transportation at OAU, handing over 50 brand-new shuttle buses and 40 tricycles to the university management. The intervention follows her earlier donation of ₦1 billion to her alma mater in October 2024, reaffirming her commitment to student welfare and institutional development.
