The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction backed by Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has insisted that the party’s national convention will go ahead as scheduled on March 9 in Abuja. The leadership said the date remains fixed despite legal challenges and opposition from rival factions within the party.
The Wike-aligned National Working Committee (NWC) has also released a timetable for convention activities, signaling its determination to move forward while parallel reconciliation talks continue among party elders and governors to bridge divisions.
The party has been embroiled in a leadership crisis, with disagreements over the timing and conduct of its presidential primary, which the Wike faction has set for May 25. Despite ongoing legal and political disputes, the faction maintains that the March 9 convention is crucial for consolidating party structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
