Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has expressed confidence that insecurity in Nigeria will soon be brought under control, stating that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is making sustained efforts to restore peace and stability across the country.
He stated this in Gusau while formally receiving Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, and his supporters into the All Progressives Congress (APC) on behalf of the President. The Vice President noted that the governor’s defection would further strengthen ongoing efforts to address security challenges in the state and beyond.
According to him, the alignment of key political actors in Zamfara under one platform would enhance cooperation and improve governance, adding that opposition parties may find it difficult to gain ground in the state.
Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, representing Senate President Godswill Akpabio, said the National Assembly caucus of the APC fully supports the governor’s move. He stressed that collaboration between the state and the Federal Government would help tackle insecurity and accelerate development.
Also speaking, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, described the development as significant, noting that Zamfara has rejoined the progressive fold. Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, assured that APC governors would support Governor Lawal in delivering more dividends of democracy.
Governor Lawal thanked former governors, including Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and Senator Abdulazeez Yari, for their support and pledged to work for the success of the APC and the progress of Zamfara State. Matawalle also stated that he will not contest the 2027 governorship election and endorsed Governor Lawal, while both he and Senator Yari pledged their support for the governor and President Tinubu.
