APC Controls 6 of 8 States Where It Fell Short of 25% in 2023 Presidential Poll

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expanded its political control to six of the eight states where it failed to secure up to 25 percent of the vote in the 2023 presidential election.

This development, observed as of 2026, reflects a shift in the political landscape driven largely by defections and realignments among state governors. States such as Edo, Delta, and Enugu, previously under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are now governed by the APC following the movement of their incumbent governors to the ruling party.

Other states, including Imo, Ebonyi, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have remained under APC control. Meanwhile, Abia continues to be governed by the Labour Party (LP), while Anambra remains under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The trend underscores the APC’s growing influence in regions where it previously underperformed during the last presidential election.
