The Federal Government has announced plans to create about 30,000 jobs following the approval of new incentives for shipowners by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The initiative is part of efforts to boost the maritime sector, strengthen local capacity, and expand employment opportunities for Nigerians, particularly in shipping, logistics, and allied services.
According to government sources, the approved incentives are designed to encourage investment in the shipping industry, reduce operational bottlenecks, and position Nigeria as a competitive hub for maritime trade.
Officials say the policy is expected to stimulate growth in coastal and inland shipping activities, while also supporting local shipownership and increasing participation in the blue economy.
The Federal Government noted that the programme aligns with broader economic reforms aimed at job creation, industrial expansion, and improved revenue generation.
With the new measures in place, authorities believe the maritime sector could become a key driver of employment and economic diversification in the years ahead.
