President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, located in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The President also sanctioned a take-off grant of N15 billion to support the immediate development of the institution.
The move is part of the implementation of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which provides for the expansion of the academy beyond its current base in Wudil, Kano State, into a multi-campus institution.
Funding for the project will come from the 2026 allocation of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), targeting the provision of critical infrastructure, academic facilities, student housing, and training equipment.
The decision followed consultations among key stakeholders, including the Minister of Police Affairs, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector-General of Police, and the leadership of the National Universities Commission.
During the deliberations, attention was given to projected student capacity, available funding, standards of academic delivery, and the evolving manpower needs of the Nigeria Police Force.
The presidency said the initiative is expected to boost the quality of police training, strengthen institutional capacity, and enhance national security.
