U.S. President Donald Trump was evacuated from a high-profile Washington gala on Saturday night after a gunman opened fire outside the event venue, triggering panic among attendees and a rapid security response.

According to federal and media reports, the incident occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner held at the Washington Hilton hotel, where President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other top officials were in attendance.

Secret Service agents swiftly moved the President offstage as gunshots were heard near a security checkpoint outside the ballroom. Guests reportedly ducked for cover as armed security personnel engaged the suspect and secured the area.

Authorities confirmed that one suspect, reportedly armed with multiple weapons, attempted to breach security before being subdued by Secret Service agents. One agent was injured but was protected from serious harm by a bulletproof vest.

Trump and all senior officials present were safely evacuated and later confirmed to be unharmed.

In a brief statement afterward, the President praised the response of security personnel, describing them as “very brave,” and said the suspect appeared to have acted alone. He also indicated that investigations are ongoing and that further security reviews would follow.

The gala event was immediately cancelled as law enforcement sealed off the area and launched a full investigation into the incident.

Officials have not yet released a confirmed motive for the attack.
