Kano Emirate Leadership Update: Ganduje Recognises Muhammadu Sanusi II as Emir of Kano Amid Ongoing Traditional Institution Adjustments

Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has officially recognised Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano, following developments within the traditional leadership structure of the Kano Emirate.

The recognition comes amid continued adjustments in the state’s emirate system, which in recent years has witnessed reforms, reversals, and reinstatements affecting the composition and leadership of the traditional council.

Sanusi, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, previously served as Emir of Kano before his removal in 2020. His return to prominence in the emirate marks a significant moment in the ongoing evolution of Kano’s traditional institution, which remains central to the cultural and historical identity of the state.

The decision is expected to further stabilise the emirate system and reinforce the role of traditional leadership in promoting unity, cultural preservation, and community engagement across Kano State.
