There was tension in the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday as Senate President Godswill Akpabio warned that disciplinary action could be taken against Senator Adams Oshiomhole over alleged disorderly conduct during plenary.

The incident occurred during the consideration of the Votes and Proceedings, when Oshiomhole repeatedly attempted to raise a point of order despite being ruled out of order by the presiding officer.

Akpabio insisted that Senate rules do not allow interruptions at that stage of proceedings and cautioned the former Edo State governor to respect order in the chamber.

He warned that continued disruption would attract sanctions, stressing that he would not hesitate to enforce the Senate’s rules to maintain discipline.

The session was briefly disrupted as other lawmakers and the Chief Whip intervened to restore order, urging Oshiomhole to comply with established procedures.

Plenary later resumed after calm was restored, and the Votes and Proceedings were eventually adopted.
