The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that all 22 registered political parties in Nigeria submitted their membership registers before the extended deadline set for preparations ahead of the 2027 general election.

The Commission disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that the parties complied with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 by meeting the revised submission date of May 10, 2026.

INEC explained that the original deadline of April 21, 2026, contained in its Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election, was extended following concerns raised by political party leaders during a meeting with the Commission on March 24, 2026.

According to the electoral body, the two-week extension was formally announced in a press statement issued on March 27, 2026, to accommodate the proposed dates for party primary elections.

The Commission stated that the adjustment aligned with Section 77(4) of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires political parties to submit their membership registers to INEC at least 21 days before the conduct of primaries.

Under the revised timetable, political parties were permitted to hold their primaries between April 23 and May 30, 2026.

INEC said all registered political parties complied with the requirement within the extended timeframe, adding that the submitted registers would now undergo the necessary verification processes in accordance with the law.
