Governor Seyi Makinde has commended the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for its surveillance missions in Oyo State, saying the operations have provided valuable intelligence on the realities facing security personnel combating insecurity in the state.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by a Nigerian Air Force delegation in Ibadan, Makinde said the aerial surveillance exercises offered his administration “tremendous insights” into the challenges confronting troops on the ground. He expressed appreciation for the Air Force’s support, particularly as security agencies continue efforts to rescue abducted teachers and pupils from Oriire Local Government Area.
The governor disclosed that the surveillance aircraft procured by the Oyo State Government is currently undergoing final assembly at a Nigerian Air Force facility in Lagos and is expected to be deployed soon. The aircraft is part of the state’s strategy to strengthen intelligence gathering, monitor criminal activities, and improve rapid response to security threats.
Makinde reiterated that the government remains committed to securing the release of dozens of students and teachers abducted during attacks on schools in Oriire in May. He urged residents to remain patient while security agencies continue coordinated rescue operations supported by aerial surveillance and intelligence assets.
The development comes as Oyo State intensifies efforts to enhance its security architecture through technology-driven solutions and closer collaboration with the military. Authorities believe the deployment of the surveillance aircraft will improve border monitoring, intelligence collection, and overall security operations across the state.
