The Nigeria Police Force has revealed details of the intelligence-led operation that resulted in the rescue of relatives of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who were abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) successfully rescued Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, during a coordinated operation on Saturday evening.
The victims were kidnapped on June 3 while Mrs. John-Paul was driving her children to school in Ibadan. Following the incident, police operatives launched an intensive intelligence-gathering effort, combining surveillance, tracking, and tactical operations to locate the kidnappers and secure the victims’ release.
Police said the rescue mission culminated in a confrontation with the abductors at about 7:30 p.m. on June 6. During the operation, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded, while two rifles were recovered from the scene. The victims were rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their family after receiving medical attention and necessary support.
The Force noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the operation. Preliminary investigations suggest that some of the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot injuries.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the officers involved in the rescue mission for their professionalism, courage, and dedication. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the country.
The successful rescue has been widely welcomed by members of the public and security stakeholders, who praised the swift response and coordinated efforts that led to the victims’ safe return after three days in captivity. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
