The Federal Government has completed the screening of Nigerians in South Africa who registered for evacuation, paving the way for the finalization of arrangements to bring them back home.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the screening exercise began on June 4 and was conducted through a joint operation involving the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation, the South African Police Service, and immigration authorities.

The government said the exercise will provide a definitive figure of Nigerians cleared for evacuation, enabling authorities to conclude plans for the deployment of aircraft to transport the evacuees to Nigeria.

The planned evacuation follows growing concerns over the safety of Nigerians living in South Africa amid renewed xenophobic attacks targeting African migrants.
