A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Duniya, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s decision to remove fuel subsidy, arguing that Nigeria would have faced severe economic challenges if the policy had remained in place.
According to him, the subsidy regime had become unsustainable and was placing a heavy burden on the nation’s finances. He maintained that the removal of the subsidy helped avert a deeper economic crisis and created room for reforms aimed at stabilising the economy.
Duniya acknowledged that the policy had imposed short-term hardships on many Nigerians but insisted that it was a necessary step to safeguard the country’s long-term economic future.
His remarks come amid ongoing debates over the impact of fuel subsidy removal on the cost of living, inflation, and the broader economic reform agenda of the Tinubu administration.
