Yari Settles Into Princely Life Amid Political, Corporate Engagements

Former Zamfara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, is increasingly seen as embracing a more affluent and business-focused lifestyle alongside his political career.

Yari, who was elected to the Senate in 2023 and made a strong bid for the position of Senate President, reportedly came close to matching the votes of Senate President Godswill Akpabio but alleged betrayal by some colleagues during the contest.

Observers note that he has since expanded his interests into the corporate sector, recently emerging as Chairman of Geregu Power Plc, replacing Femi Otedola, through a reported deal involving his company, MA’AM Energy Ltd, and Amperion Power Distribution Company Ltd.

Geregu Power is currently valued at about N2.83 trillion.

Despite his growing corporate engagements, Yari continues to maintain a presence in politics. Ahead of the APC primaries, he was absent from a key stakeholders’ meeting aimed at building consensus for National Assembly tickets in Zamfara State.

The meeting was attended by prominent political figures, including former governors Ahmad Sani Yarima, Mahmuda Shinkafi, Bello Matawalle, as well as other party leaders and serving senators.

Nevertheless, Yari went on to secure the APC senatorial ticket for Zamfara West senatorial district with relative ease.
