First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Nigerian girls to take the lead in shaping the country’s digital future, urging them to embrace information and communication technology (ICT) and use it to solve real-life challenges.

She made the charge at a dinner organised by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy to honour winners of the third edition of the National Girls in ICT Competition.

According to her, the programme has helped build the capacity of young girls by exposing them to digital skills, creativity, leadership, and problem-solving opportunities. She noted that more than 3,700 girls from across the six geopolitical zones participated in the initiative through competitions, boot camps, mentorship sessions, and innovation challenges.

The First Lady encouraged the participants to remain curious, confident, and courageous as they pursue opportunities in the digital space, stressing that their ideas are valuable to national development.

She also highlighted that projects developed by the girls—including smart agriculture tools, AI-powered solutions, and assistive technologies for persons with disabilities—show the potential of young innovators in driving Nigeria’s digital transformation.

Oluremi Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to empowering women and girls as key players in the country’s growing digital economy, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
