President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named 18 Nigerians, mostly retired senior military officers, as “soldier-democrats” in recognition of their roles in the June 12 democratic struggle.

Those honoured include Major General M.A. Garba, Brigadier General Lawal Jaafaru Isa, Colonel Umar Farouk Ahmed, Colonel Sambo Dasuki, Colonel Lawan Gwadabe, and Brigadier General Jonathan Ndam Temlong.

Others are Colonel Musa Shehu, Major General Chris Eze, Major General Harris Dzarma, Colonel Isa Jibrin, and Major General Joseph Oshanupin.

Also listed are Colonel Olusegun Oloruntoba (Olugbede of Gbede Kingdom), Lieutenant Colonel Happy Kefas Bulus, Colonel J. Okai, Colonel Emmanuel Ndubueze, and Lieutenant Colonel Yakubu Muazu.

Brigadier General Yahaya Abubakar, the current Etsu Nupe, was also included in the recognition list.
