Armed men suspected to be bandits launched a midnight raid on communities in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing at least one resident and abducting several others in a renewed wave of insecurity in the region.

According to local reports, the attackers stormed villages in the Lafiagi axis during the night, firing sporadically and forcing residents to flee into nearby bushes for safety. One resident was confirmed dead during the attack, while several others were taken away by the gunmen.

Eyewitness accounts indicated that the assailants operated for a short but violent period, targeting homes before escaping with kidnapped victims into surrounding forests. The incident has left the affected communities in fear and uncertainty.

The attack adds to a growing pattern of insecurity in Kwara North, where rural settlements have repeatedly been targeted by armed groups carrying out kidnappings for ransom and violent raids on farming communities.

Security operatives have reportedly begun monitoring the area, though authorities are yet to release full details on the incident.

Community leaders have again called on government and security agencies to intensify protection of vulnerable rural areas to prevent further attacks. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
