First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed her commitment to combating child hunger and malnutrition, unveiling plans to expand National Food Banks and nutrition support programmes for vulnerable families across the country through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).

Speaking during the second-quarter meeting with wives of state governors at the State House in Abuja, the First Lady said no child should be allowed to go hungry, stressing the need for coordinated efforts to identify and support malnourished children at the grassroots.

She explained that the National Food Bank Programme, inaugurated in Abuja earlier this year, is being expanded across the six geopolitical zones to provide food and nutritional support for children, pregnant women and nursing mothers.

According to her, the food banks are strategically located close to primary healthcare centres to enable beneficiaries access both nutrition support and medical care.

The First Lady urged wives of governors to take an active role in ensuring vulnerable children in their respective states receive proper care and nutrition.

She noted that the initiative is being implemented in partnership with key stakeholders, including the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the Bank of Agriculture, the National Population Commission and private-sector partners.

Oluremi Tinubu said the nutrition programme forms part of broader social intervention efforts under the Renewed Hope Initiative, which also covers education, scholarships, economic empowerment, environmental sustainability and community development.

She called for increased donations and support for the National Food Bank Drive, describing it as a critical component of efforts to improve food security and reduce malnutrition nationwide.

The First Lady also reiterated that the administration’s reforms are designed to create long-term benefits for future generations, while encouraging Nigerians, particularly young people, to embrace entrepreneurship and emerging economic opportunities.

She added that the Renewed Hope Initiative has impacted thousands of beneficiaries across the country through various empowerment and support programmes over the past three years.
