President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday signed into law the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Act 2026 at the State House, Abuja.

The new legislation is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s identity management framework, enhance the administration of the National Identity Number (NIN) system, and support ongoing efforts to improve digital governance, national security, and service delivery.

The assent marks a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s drive to build a more efficient, secure, and inclusive identity management system for citizens and legal residents across the country.

Further details on the provisions and implementation of the Act are expected to be released by the Presidency and relevant government agencies.
