The Department of State Services (DSS) has released a Kaduna State farmer, Nura Idris, after investigations found no evidence linking him to the terrorist group Boko Haram. The agency also awarded him ₦3 million in compensation following his wrongful detention.

Idris, a farmer and livestock rearer from Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was arrested in June 2024 by another security agency in Suleja, Niger State, over allegations of terrorism before being transferred to the DSS for further investigation.

Following a thorough review of the case, the DSS concluded that the allegations against him were unfounded and ordered his immediate release. The agency said the compensation was approved to assist him in rebuilding his life and reintegrating into society after the ordeal.

Speaking after regaining his freedom, Idris expressed appreciation to the DSS leadership, stating that he was treated fairly during his detention. He said the compensation would help him restart his farming and livestock business.

His father also thanked the DSS for releasing his son and providing financial support, describing the development as a significant relief for the family.

The case is part of the DSS’s ongoing review of inherited and prolonged detention cases aimed at ensuring that individuals wrongfully held in custody are identified, exonerated, and supported as they return to their communities. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
