The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reiterated that repentant terrorists will not be recruited into its ranks, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining professionalism and integrity within the force.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Isyaku Mohammed, who oversees the North Central Geopolitical Zone, made the declaration during a stakeholders’ meeting in Ilorin, Kwara State. He urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, and other stakeholders to refrain from recommending individuals with criminal backgrounds for recruitment into the police or other security agencies.

Mohammed stressed that while the Federal Government may have policies on the rehabilitation and reintegration of former insurgents, the Nigeria Police Force would not admit repentant terrorists into its service.

Drawing from his experience in the North-East, the DIG recalled that many communities resisted the reintegration of former Boko Haram members due to the pain and destruction they had inflicted on families and communities.

He further disclosed that the police are taking proactive measures to prevent individuals with criminal records from infiltrating the force, emphasizing that thorough screening processes remain a key part of police recruitment.

The DIG also announced plans to establish joint border patrols across Kwara State and neighbouring states to strengthen security, combat cross-border crimes, and enhance intelligence sharing.

He called for stronger collaboration between security agencies and local communities, noting that community policing, timely intelligence, and youth engagement remain critical to addressing the country’s security challenges. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
