The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that a pastor was arrested for supplying arms and ammunition to kidnappers involved in the abduction of students and teachers in Orire Local Government Area, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the command clarified that no pastor had been arrested by the police or any other security agency participating in the ongoing investigation and rescue operation.

According to the police, the reports, which have been circulating on social media and some online platforms, failed to identify the alleged pastor or provide any credible evidence to support the allegations. The command added that the misinformation appeared intended to distract security agencies and undermine public confidence in the ongoing efforts to rescue the abducted victims.

The police urged members of the public to disregard the false reports and rely only on information released through the command’s official communication channels. It also warned that individuals found spreading false information capable of disrupting security operations would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Oyo State Police Command assured residents that efforts to secure the safe rescue of the abducted students and teachers remain ongoing, while pledging to continue working with relevant stakeholders to protect lives and property across the state.
