The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has clarified media reports regarding the ongoing reforms of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), particularly discussions surrounding a proposed change of uniform.

Olawande said his earlier remarks during an appearance on Channels Television referenced Adire and Ankara only as examples of fabrics under consideration during consultations, and not as an official decision on a new NYSC uniform.

He stressed that no final decision has been taken on the design or fabric of the proposed uniform.

According to him, the ongoing discussions are exploring multiple options that meet key requirements, including professional appearance, national identity, durability, functionality, cost-effectiveness, and the promotion of national pride.

The minister explained that any final decision will follow extensive stakeholder engagement and will be guided by what best serves the interests of the NYSC scheme and the nation.

Olawande urged Nigerians to focus on the broader objectives of the NYSC reform programme, noting that the initiative is aimed at improving youth employability, promoting entrepreneurship, strengthening national integration, and easing the transition from education to productive careers.

He added that while discussions around the uniform are valid, they should not overshadow the wider reforms intended to reposition the NYSC as a stronger platform for national development.

The minister assured that all proposals will continue to be carefully reviewed in the best interest of the country.
