The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated 140,000 copies of seven different storybooks focused on girl-child development to the Federal Ministry of Education for distribution to public schools nationwide.

The books, published by the Merck Foundation and supported by her office, were officially handed over to the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, for onward distribution to school libraries across the country.

Senator Tinubu said the initiative reflects her commitment to empowering young girls and helping them build a future aligned with their aspirations.

She noted that the books, which cover various life lessons, are designed to benefit both boys and girls by promoting confidence, empathy, healthy habits, gender equity, and social responsibility.

According to the First Lady, the collaboration with the Merck Foundation has also contributed significantly to strengthening social development and healthcare, including the provision of medical scholarships in Nigeria.

She emphasized the importance of providing adequate support systems to help the girl child navigate educational and social challenges, particularly through access to functional education.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, commended the initiative, describing the books as valuable resources that address critical issues such as gender discrimination, sexual violence, and moral development.

He praised the First Lady for her continued support for education and social development, noting that the ministry will ensure the books are distributed to public school libraries across the country.

The distribution of the books has already commenced nationwide, according to officials.
