Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have torched government and commercial vehicles during a pre-dawn attack on Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, causing significant property damage and disrupting commercial activities.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 4:30 a.m. on Friday, when the assailants stormed the town and made their way to the Geidam Local Government Secretariat.
The insurgents allegedly set two official vehicles, a Toyota Hilux and a Sharon bus on fire before targeting two commercial trucks, one of which was transporting goods worth millions of naira belonging to traders returning from the weekly market.
Residents who witnessed the incident said the attackers appeared to have adopted a new strategy by leaving their motorcycles outside the town and entering on foot, a move believed to have reduced the chances of early detection.
Although no casualties were reported, the attack resulted in substantial economic losses for affected traders and the local government. The destruction of vehicles and valuable goods has further heightened concerns over security in communities across Yobe State.
Security agencies had not released a detailed official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
Investigations are expected to continue as authorities intensify efforts to track down those responsible. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
