A Federal High Court sitting in Katsina has sentenced two men to 20 years in prison each for terrorism-related offences arising from the illegal transportation of firearms and ammunition.

The convicts, Abdussalam Muhammad and Aminu Mamman, were found guilty after the court upheld charges filed against them by the Nigeria Police Force.

Police said the pair was arrested in September 2025 along the Ingawa–Karkarku Road in Katsina State while allegedly conveying a large cache of weapons believed to be destined for criminal and terrorist groups.

Items recovered from the suspects included a PKT machine gun, 230 rounds of PKT ammunition, 1,663 rounds of 7.62×39mm AK-47 ammunition, and the vehicle used to transport the arms.

The prosecution charged the defendants with criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession and transportation of prohibited firearms and ammunition, providing support to terrorist activities, and acts preparatory to terrorism under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and the Firearms Act.
After reviewing the evidence presented during the trial, the court convicted both men on all counts. The judgment imposed prison terms that included 20 years on the major counts, underscoring the seriousness of the offences.

Reacting to the verdict, the Nigeria Police Force described the conviction as a significant boost to ongoing efforts to curb terrorism and disrupt the illegal arms trade. The Force reaffirmed its commitment to bringing individuals involved in terrorism financing, arms trafficking, and other organised crimes to justice. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
