A retired Nigerian Army officer has been killed after confronting armed men who invaded a community in Nasarawa State and abducted a woman during a late-night attack.
The incident occurred in the PGC Community, a settlement located along the boundary between Nasarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The gunmen reportedly stormed the area in the early hours of Friday and forcefully took away Bukola Oluwatoyin Silas, 40, from her family residence.
Residents said the community’s Chief Security Officer, Master Warrant Officer Reuben Yelwa (retd.), responded after receiving reports of the attack. He was reportedly shot by the assailants while attempting to stop the abduction and later died from his injuries.
Security agencies subsequently arrived at the scene to assess the situation and begin investigations. Police said efforts are underway to rescue the kidnapped woman and track down those behind the attack.
The latest incident has heightened concerns over the recurring cases of kidnapping and violent attacks in communities bordering the FCT, with residents calling for stronger security measures to safeguard lives and property.
