A notorious bandit commander, Kachalla Sani Yellow, has been killed in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, in what is being described as a major development in the ongoing fight against banditry in Nigeria’s North-West.

However, conflicting accounts have emerged over the circumstances surrounding his death.

Local sources said Yellow was shot dead on Friday, July 10, at Dan Jibga Market by gunmen believed to be loyal to rival bandit leader Dogo Gide. According to the sources, the attackers ambushed him in broad daylight and killed him on the spot, an incident residents say reflects the growing rivalry among armed bandit groups competing for territorial control.

A separate account from security sources claimed the notorious commander was neutralised during a coordinated security operation involving security personnel and members of the Maiduguri Special Vigilantes, recently deployed to support counter-banditry operations in Zamfara State. Authorities have yet to officially confirm which account accurately reflects the circumstances of his death.

Kachalla Sani Yellow was regarded as one of the most influential bandit commanders operating across the forests of Anka, Bukkuyum, Maru and neighbouring local government areas. He was accused of masterminding deadly attacks on rural communities, mass kidnappings for ransom, cattle rustling and violent raids that displaced thousands of residents.

Meanwhile, fresh violence has been reported in parts of Tsafe Local Government Area, where gunmen suspected to be loyal to another bandit leader, Adamu Aliero, allegedly killed at least two residents and abducted more than 60 others in apparent reprisal attacks.

Security forces have intensified operations to rescue the victims and prevent further violence across affected communities. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
