The Nigeria Police Force is set to arraign the self-acclaimed Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, before the Federal High Court in Abuja tomorrow over allegations of forgery, impersonation and other related offences.
Adeyemi, alongside two others, is facing an eight-count charge filed by the police.
The arraignment was previously adjourned after he was reportedly unable to appear in court due to ill health.
The prosecution is expected to present several witnesses, including the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, officials from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, police officers and other individuals connected to the investigation. Investigators are also expected to tender documentary evidence, including alleged forged appointment letters and police investigation reports.
The case has intensified calls for accountability over the activities of the purported agency. Civil society groups have urged the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to conduct a comprehensive investigation, while Senator Kawu Sumaila has renewed calls for the Senate to probe how the alleged agency was included in the national budget.
The Presidency has maintained that the PFIPC is not a recognised government agency and has directed the ICPC to investigate the matter as pressure mounts for greater transparency and accountability. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
