France captain Kylian Mbappe has become the first player in FIFA World Cup history to win the Golden Boot twice after finishing as the tournament’s top scorer at the 2026 World Cup.

The Real Madrid forward scored 10 goals in eight matches, finishing ahead of Argentina captain Lionel Messi, who ended the tournament with eight goals. Mbappe sealed the award by scoring twice in France’s 6-4 defeat to England in the third-place playoff.

The 27-year-old also became the men’s all-time leading World Cup scorer with 22 career goals, surpassing Messi’s previous record of 21.

Despite his individual success, Mbappe admitted he would have preferred to help France reach the final rather than claim the Golden Boot.

Spain, meanwhile, swept the tournament’s other major individual honours, with Rodri winning the Golden Ball, Unai Simon claiming the Golden Glove, and Pau Cubarsi being named Best Young Player after La Roja defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
