The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man suspected of supplying hard drugs and logistics to a kidnapping syndicate operating within Abuja and its surrounding communities.

The suspect, identified as Umaru Danda, was arrested by operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit during an intelligence-led operation following the July 8, 2026, abduction at Yellow House in Mpape.

Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, said investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly provided illicit drugs and other supplies used by the kidnappers to sustain their operations.

According to the commissioner, Danda, who is from Zamfara State but resides in Gadabiu village, Niger State, led police operatives to three hideouts used by the criminal gang in Niger State after his arrest.

Items recovered from the hideouts include an AK-47 rifle, 25 cards of 225mg tramadol, 30 cards of 100mg tramadol, substances suspected to be cocaine and cannabis, cannabis pills, two bottles of Embazol tablets, a digital weighing scale, two ATM cards, two earpods, bags, and ₦250,000 in cash.

Sanusi said the suspect remains in police custody and will be prosecuted after the conclusion of investigations.

He also disclosed that the Anti-Kidnapping Unit rescued a kidnapped victim in the Karshi area of the FCT in a separate operation, reaffirming the command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across the territory. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
