President Bola Tinubu will formally present the 2025 national budget to a joint session of the National Assembly on Tuesday, December 17, as announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary session.

The budget presentation is scheduled to take place in the chamber of the House of Representatives. This marks the next step in Nigeria’s fiscal planning process following President Tinubu’s earlier submission of the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) for 2025-2027 to the legislature last week.

The Senate Committee on Finance, National Planning, and Economic Affairs has been tasked with reviewing the MTEF/FSP documents and submitting a report within a week. These documents outline critical economic parameters, including:

Oil price benchmark: $75 per barrel

Daily oil production target: 2.06 million barrels

Exchange rate: N1,400 to $1

GDP growth rate projection: 6.4%

The proposed N47.9 trillion 2025 budget is built on these assumptions, which are expected to guide Nigeria’s economic strategy and expenditure for the coming year.

The budget presentation is a key milestone in the fiscal calendar, as it allows lawmakers to scrutinize and approve the government’s spending plan. It also reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to engaging the National Assembly in shaping Nigeria’s economic direction.

Observers will closely monitor the presentation for insights into how the government plans to tackle pressing challenges, including inflation, revenue generation, and the ongoing energy reforms.

The December 17 address is anticipated to provide further clarity on President Tinubu’s policy priorities as his administration seeks to consolidate economic growth and fiscal stability.
