The Federal Government has announced December 25 and 26, 2024, as well as January 1, 2025, as public holidays to mark the Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day celebrations, respectively.

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, made the announcement in a statement signed by Magdalene Ajani, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary.

In the statement, Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to Nigerians, urging them to use the festive season to reflect on the values of love, peace, and unity that Christmas represents.

“The Christmas season is a good moment for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences,” the statement read.

The Minister encouraged citizens to foster harmony, strengthen family and community bonds, and remain committed to the peace, unity, and progress of the nation.

Reaffirming the government’s dedication to national stability, Tunji-Ojo assured Nigerians of the Federal Government’s commitment to peace, security, and prosperity. He also highlighted that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration aims to bring about a prosperous economy that would be admired globally.

He concluded by wishing Nigerians joyful celebrations and a renewed spirit of unity as they enter the new year.
