Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, and several serving governors are among top political figures contesting in the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primaries taking place across the country today.
Other principal officers of the Senate in the race include Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Senate Chief Whip Mohammed Tahir Monguno.
Governors seeking APC senatorial tickets include Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, and Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State.
Former governors and other political heavyweights are also participating in the contests. Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello is seeking the APC ticket for Kogi Central, while former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege is contesting for Delta Central.
In Gombe State, Governor Inuwa Yahaya is expected to face former governor and serving senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo in a keenly contested battle for the senatorial seat.
The APC had earlier concluded House of Representatives primaries and also constituted appeal committees to address complaints arising from the exercise.
