Nigerian troops have killed a senior commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), identified as Mohammed Khalifa, during a major counterinsurgency operation in Borno State.

The military also confirmed the surrender of two other ISWAP commanders, Ismail Mohammed and Abu Umar, to troops of Operation Hadin Kai as pressure from ongoing offensives continues to mount on insurgent groups in the North-East.

According to military authorities, the operation forms part of sustained efforts to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their activities, and restore stability across the region. Security officials described the development as a significant boost to ongoing counterterrorism campaigns.

The surrender of the commanders is expected to provide valuable intelligence that could assist security agencies in tracking remaining insurgent cells and preventing future attacks.

Borno State remains the epicentre of Nigeria’s fight against Boko Haram and ISWAP, with the military maintaining an aggressive strategy aimed at weakening the groups’ operational capabilities and encouraging defections from their ranks.

Military officials reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining operations until lasting peace and security are achieved across the North-East. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
