Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as one of the most fiscally reckless governments in Nigeria’s democratic history.
In a statement, Atiku based his criticism on reports of duplicated and overlapping allocations in the 2026 Federal Budget, arguing that the development raised serious concerns about fiscal discipline, transparency and public financial management.
The former Vice President called for a comprehensive forensic review of the 2026 Appropriation Act and urged relevant anti-corruption agencies to independently investigate the alleged budget irregularities.
Atiku maintained that greater accountability and transparency in public finance are essential to strengthening governance and restoring public confidence in government institutions.
The comments add to the growing political exchanges between the opposition and the Federal Government as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.
